Paso de Oveja - Sheep pass - part IV

On the fourth day we were hiking back to Ushuaia

Don´t look these pictures like everybody imagines Tierra del Fuego?

Paso de Oveja - sheep pass part III

"Challenge accepted". Andi tried to light a fire, so that we can warm up and dry our socks. If he made it, Jo would buy him a 300gr beef filet. Unfortunately it wasn't possible...

Beautiful view towards the Lago Caminante

We went back from the sidetrack and headed towards the pass.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Sometimes we went through knee-deep snow.

The pass

The river was too far away. So we melted snow for our tea and to cook dinner...

Paso de Oveja - Sheep pass - part II

With perfect weather we went down again to the Valle de Andorra. The rest of the trail we were hiking together with a couple from Munich: Bärbel and Andi. They were real trekking specialists and we could learn a lot!

We were hiking trough dense forest...

...and after a while we reached the first unnatural lakes made by beavers. Beavers are not native in that area. They were introduced a long time ago because of there nice fur.

It´s amazing what those little animals are able to do.

The dams they build are sometimes gigantic.

Therefore the trail was sometimes heavily flooded and we had to climb and balance over trees. Here Andi followed by Eva.

The beaver's lodge: this one had four entrances, which normally lie under the water surface to protect the lodge. Such a huge lodge is usually built by only one male beaver, who lives together with his wife and children.

Paso de la Oveja - sheep pass - part I

But the main thing why we were in Ushuaia was not the museum it was of course hiking in the fascinating landscape of the Tierra del Fuego. We decided to hike for four days along the Paso de Oveja around Ushuaia.
Yeahh, we made it! Our first destination was Laguna Encantada.

In the evening it started to snow...

... and didn't stop until the morning.

As it was freezing cold, we had to cook breakfast inside the tent.

Brrr...

Laguna Encantada

After we packed all our stuff, we had the brilliant idea...

... to build a snowman. We called him "Feuerli".

Some impressions from Ushuaia

When we arrived at 3 a.m. we took the first hostel that we found. And this time it was a hostel in a little hut. And it was very cold. We had snow in the morning. By the way: Ushuaia is situated right next to the sea, the Beagle Channel.

Yes we were really far south.

Our way down south to Ushuaia

We changed our plan a little bit as it was raining like hell in El Bolson and Esquel and decided to go to Ushuaia as soon as possible. On our last part from Rio Gallegos to Ushuaia we took a bus from the company Marga... It was maybe not the best decision.

Because on the dirt roads the bus broke down and we had to wait for 4 hours on the Chilenian border.

One of the busdrivers tried to repair the bus.

We were really somewhere in the nowhere...

The checkpoint at the border.

The sunset was nice and finally the busdriver could repair the bus and we arrived in Ushuaia at 3 in the night. By the way: Ushuaia is the southernmost city of Argentina and nearly the southernmost city of the world, only Chilenian Puerto Williams on the Isla Navarion is more south.

Bariloche Hiking tour - day 3 and 4

Lago Jakob - Originally we wanted to go on to Refugio Italio. But we were too exhausted of the treck from the day before, so we decided to go directly back to Bariloche.

The trail followed this valley.

Also this trail had some difficult sections.

We camped on the way to Bariloche and had a nice sunset.

The end of the trail was hard again: Horses on the trail and...

...snakes and...

... and caterpillars.

Bariloche hiking tour - day II

On our second day we continued our hiking tour to Refugio Jacob. The weather was perfect, but the hike was very exhausting...

"Packesel Joemul"

This was the first exhausting, steep ascent.

Laguna Schmoll

...and all the way down to the valley. There was no real trail and it was very steep.

We came down that mountain..
