Mongolia Tour - Day 10

This was our last day on our tour... :-(
We enjoyed Mongolia very much. The people and the nature were completely different to everything we experienced before! This is a country worth to be visited!
"We will miss the toilets"

The fellows of the Gobi/Mongolia tour.

Gers and blue sky - That´s beautiful Mongolia

Sheep, a man on a horse, a salt lake and moutains: This is beautiful Mongolia!

An ugly capital city (coal powerplants in the living districs): This is also Mongolia

Back to our hostel in Ulaan Bataar we cooked together with Aurelie microwave brownies! They were great!

Mongolia Tour - day 9 - a lost monastery

A holy tree near to the lost monastery. Don´t ask for the name! It was just too much input for us.

Behind the monastery was again a very scenic landscape!

In this valley was once the small Buddhism monastery

... and the sunset in the evening!  Irgendwelche Fragen Kienzle?

Mongolia Tour day 9 - The white cliffs

Impressions from the white cliffs without any comment...

Lost Aurelie...

Where is Eva???

This was the material of the white cliffs: Very fragile!

Mongolia Tour - day 9 - How to build a ger

How to build up a ger in nine steps...

Mongolia Tour - Day 8

We stopped in the biggest town of the Gobi desert (Dalanzadgad). Finally we had our first shower during the trip in a local shower house. Normally the nomadic families go there once a week to have a shower.

The ceiling of a ger.

A half year old baby camel was crying while waiting for its mum.

In the evening the camel mothers came back to their children to give milk. While the child was sucking the milk, the family grandma milked the camel. Out of the milk they produced "Mongolian beer", which is fermented milk called Airag. Very tasty (at least for Jo).

Jo helped to herd the mother camels. Only one camel after the other was milked, so the others had to wait.

Mongolia tour - day 7

On day 7 we were driving a long way... But at the end of the day we reached a big gorge in the Gobi desert (we forgot the name).

We really drove through this bottleneck!
The next pictures just without comment.

Mongolia tour - day 6 part III - goat killing

In the evening the next highlight followed: Bayra our van driver killed a goat. Joram helped him to carry it to the "slaughterhouse" (Schlachthof) in front of the ger.
The killing of the goat was very different to the German way of killing animals: Two persons hold the goat on its back down to the ground. Then Bayra made a small cut in the chest of the living goat, put his arm into the goat and pulled out a big blood vessel near to the heart. After that the goat bled to death and was immediately dead.

Here you can see the Mongolian "Slaughterhouse".

The son of the family helped to slaughter the goat...

Bloody details!

The good meat was put in the "fridge" of the ger...

The result! Everything was used!

The boy had fun with the goat head...

Afterwards the women cleaned the bowels (Därme) and made sausages out of blood and lung. The rest of the inner parts were also prepared for dinner. You can´t imagine the stink in the ger!

While the women were working the men were watching a Mongolian wrestling show on TV

Our dinner this evening... It was much, much better than it looks here on the picture. Jo must commit that it tasted  better than any inner parts in Germany (for example liver from Schaschlik)
